FAQs

What is Novano made of, and why is it different from wood or other composites?

Novano is manufactured from a proprietary blend of approximately 60% rice husks, 22% common salt, and 18% mineral oil, creating a fully wood-free composite material. This unique composition makes it highly resistant to water, rot, insects, and cracking, while maintaining the natural grain appearance of timber without the vulnerabilities of traditional wood products.

How durable is Novano under long-term weather exposure?

Novano is engineered for long-term durability across Europe’s diverse climates. It resists moisture, UV exposure, rot, mould, and termites. While minor lightening may occur after several years of exposure, the surface can be easily refreshed using Novano-approved refinishing systems to restore original colour and appearance.

Will Novano fade or change colour over time?

Over many years of environmental exposure, Novano may experience gradual lightening depending on conditions such as sun exposure and climate. However, any change occurs slowly and can be easily maintained with surface treatments or recoating using Novano-approved stains to preserve or restore colour intensity.

Can Novano be installed like traditional wood materials?

Yes. Novano can be cut, drilled, milled, sanded, glued, and screwed using standard woodworking tools. Proper installation techniques, including correct substructure preparation, thermal expansion allowances, and approved fastening systems, should always be followed as outlined in the Novano Installation Guides.

Is Novano supplied pre-finished?

Novano products are available either unfinished or pre-finished (recommended). Our primer and colour coating can be applied at the factory or on site using our colour coat system.

What surface treatments are approved for Novano?

Only Novano-approved surface treatments, including our Base Primer and Colour Coating Layer should be used. These water-based, low-VOC systems are specifically developed to provide excellent adhesion, UV protection, moisture resistance, and long-term finish stability. Using non-approved treatments may compromise performance and void warranties.

What makes Novano so durable?

Thanks to its unique blend of natural fibres and advanced composite technology, Novano offers excellent durability, stability, and long-term performance. Unlike traditional wood, it contains no timber components, making it highly resistant to rotting, splintering, and insect damage.

Why doesn’t Novano crack?

Novano does not absorb or release moisture, which prevents internal stress caused by swelling or shrinking. As a result, cracking is virtually eliminated, and dimensional changes are limited to minimal thermal expansion.

Is it difficult to install Novano?

No. Novano can be installed much like any standard cladding and facade system. Simply follow the instructions provided in our installation guides to ensure correct installation.

Does a Novano façade require elaborate maintenance?

No. Novano is designed for minimal maintenance. Since it resists water absorption, there is no paint chipping, cracking, or typical weathering seen in wood products. Periodic cleaning and inspection are all that’s required.

Does Novano require special care?

Novano is very low-maintenance. Its fibre-reinforced composite structure is highly water resistant, and it will not crack or splinter like traditional wood. Insects and fungi do not affect Novano, allowing you to enjoy its natural look with minimal upkeep.

How is the surface of Novano treated?

Novano surfaces can be finished using the our colour coat system, which includes approved primers and coatings. Products may also be ordered pre-finished from the factory to reduce on-site finishing time.

Is Novano safe for my family, children, and pets?

Yes. Novano is completely wood-free and splinter-free, making it safe for children and pets. Its smooth surface prevents splinters and sharp edges, while its durable composite structure is free from harmful chemicals, creating a safe environment for the entire family, including dogs.
